If you're anything like me, there's a very specific kind of craving that hits after a summer run. It's equal parts "I need to hydrate" and "I need something cold and sweet." This recipe solves both, homemade electrolyte popsicles that satisfy that sweet craving while replenishing all the sweat and hard work you just left out on the pavement.
I used to come home, reach for in the freezer for a cool popsicle, then remember I still needed to get my electrolytes in. So I thought: why not have both?
Without hesitation, I ordered popsicle molds and got to work in the lab (aka my small apartment kitchen). After taking stock of my NOBULL electrolyte flavors, I knew I wanted something that tasted like summer, so naturally, I started workshopping lemonade flavors. My favorites turned out to be classic lemonade flavor and raspberry, but honestly, you should experiment with any flavor.
As a marathon runner, I make sure to drink electrolytes after every run. Running 50+ miles a week means I'm losing a significant amount of sodium on the pavement, and electrolytes help maintain hydration, prevent cramping, and stave off that depleted feeling. Plus, NOBULL's flavors are just fun and tasty.
This recipe is quick and easy, and it satisfies every post-workout craving (and need).
What you need:
- 1 ½ cups water
- ½ cup lemonade (any flavor you prefer — I like regular and raspberry)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 packet NOBULL Electrolytes
- Popsicle molds (I used these for size reference)
Makes 5 popsicles
How to make it:
- In a Pyrex measuring cup, combine the water, lemonade, lemon juice, and NOBULL Electrolytes.
- Stir until the electrolyte powder is fully dissolved.
- Pour the mixture into popsicle molds and add the stick toppers.
- Freeze for 6–8 hours on a flat surface (I recommend making these the day before).
- You'll know they're ready when the popsicle pulls out cleanly — no slushiness left inside. If it's tough to remove, run the mold under warm water for a few seconds to loosen it.
- Enjoy, and replenish!
Your first bite will taste a little salty, and that's a good thing — it means it's working. Want it sweeter? Cut back on the water and add a bit more lemonade. Prefer it tart? Add extra lemon juice.
Now every post-run craving comes with a built-in recovery plan. Swap in your favorite NOBULL flavor, play with the lemonade mix, and make it yours… just don't skip the electrolytes.
Cheers to summertime!
